♣ Useful Sentences

*The cracks may look serious but the damage is only superficial.
　（ひびは深刻に見えるが、損害は外部だけの表面的なものだ。）
*We are still cleaning debris out of the damaged factory.
　（私達は、未だ被害を受けた工場の瓦礫撤去をしている。）
*The building is on reclaimed land so is at risk from liquefaction.

Your Chinese subsidiary has experienced a large earthquake and has sent you this email to inform you of their status:

Dear …. san


A magnitude ７ earthquake struck near to our factory at 9:32am today. 3 staff have died and 20 have been injured by the collapses of one of our warehouses. We evacuated from the buildings for 2 hours waiting for aftershocks to finish. Most staff have been allowed to go home to check their families safety but requested to communicate their situation to HR by landlines which still seem to be operating. There is damage to the factory which is still being assessed by our maintenance personal. It is unclear when power and utilities will be restored. As you know several of our suppliers near to our factory and they seem to have also been affected by fires though we are awaiting confirmation of their status.

Our backup generators are sufficient to power the office building but not the factory.

We have agreements with local suppliers for additional generators but it has been difficult contacting them.

It is very chaotic.

本日朝９時、工場の周辺地域でマグニチュード７の地震が発生しました。 倉庫の倒壊により３名の従業員が亡くなり、20 名が負傷しました。余 震が治まるまでの２時間にわたり、建物から避難しました。ほとんどの 従業員は、家族の安否を確認するために帰宅を許可されていますが、使用できる固定電話により人事総務と自分達の状況について連絡するように要請しています。

工場施設には、まだメンテナンス業者がチェックしている損傷がありま す。電力やライフラインの復旧はいつになるか、まだはっきりしていま せん。工場周辺にあるサプライヤーについては状況を確認中ですが、火災の影響を受けたように思われます。 バックアップの発電機は、オフィス建物には対応できますが、工場の運 営には不十分です。地元のサプライヤーとは、発電機の補充の契約をんでいますが、連絡を取り合うのが難しく、混乱している状況です。

You have been asked by your manager to post a web-date to inform your foreign customers of the situation.
